Sarjan aloittaa kasvatustieteiden emeritusprofessori Kari Uusikylä, joka katsoo näyttelyssä Pyhälahden valokuvaamossa otettua omakuvaansa 13-vuotiaana. Kuraattori Heta Kaisto valikoi kuvan näyttelyyn tuntematta sen kohdetta ennalta. Hän näki kuvassa ihmisen kokonaisen hermojärjestelmän avautuvan nuoren levottomassa katseessa.\n\n \n\nKari Uusikylä on tehnyt pitkän uransa tutkien lapsuutta ja ihmisen luovuutta ja lahjakkuutta. Hän kirjoittaa suosittua blogia \"Suoraa puhetta\". Avoimesti vaikeasta lapsuudestaan alkoholistiperheessä puhuneen Uusikylän luennon aiheena on \"Poika katsoo sielunsa syvyyksiin: Mitä hän näkee?\""
