Taiteilijat edustavat eri heimoja ja kansoja sekä tulevat useilta maantieteellisiltä alueilta.</p>\n<p>TAITEILIJAT</p>\n<p>Linda Lomahaftewa, hopi- ja choctaw-sukua<br>Hänen teoksissaan yhdistyvät vertauskuvat sekä eläin- ja kasviaiheet, jotka pelkistettyinäkin viittaavat maahan ja taivaaseen.<br>Taiteilija kuului Institute of American Indian Artsin (IAIA) ensimmäiseen opiskelijaryhmään. Myöhemmin hän opetti yliopistossa yli 40 vuoden ajan.</p>\n<p>Cannupa Hanska Luger, arikara-, hidatsa-, lakota- ja mandan-sukua sekä kolmen Fort Bertholdin liittoutuneen heimon jäsen<br>Lugerin Tulevaisuuden esi-isien teknologiat – jota taiteilija itse kutsuu “alkuperäiskansojen scifiksi” – yhdistää installaatiota ja videota tarinoihin maasta sekä ihmisen ja maan välisestä suhteesta.</p>\n<p>Meryl McMaster, nêhiyaw- ja métis-heimojen jäsen sekä brittiläistä ja hollantilaista syntyperää<br>Taiteilija tutkii taiteessaan sukujuuria ja minän suhdetta maahan.</p>\n<p>Larry McNeil, tlingit- ja nisga’a-heimojen jäsen<br>McNeilin kuvat kertovat heimojen elämästä ja näyttävät, kuinka herkkää alkuperäiskansoista kertominen on. Kommentoidessaan valtavirran käsityksiä Amerikan alkuperäiskansoista taiteilija tekee sen usein humoristisesti.</p>\n<p>Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, salish- ja kootenai-kansakunnan jäsen sekä métis- ja shoshone-sukua<br>Smith kertoo tarinoita valottaakseen yhteyksiämme muihin elollisiin. Hänen taiteensa on humoristista, huolehtivaa ja lämmintä.<br>Vuonna 2023 taiteilijalla oli retrospektiivinen näyttely arvostetussa Whitney Museum of American Artissa, ja vuonna 1999 hän edusti Yhdysvaltoja Venetsian biennaalissa. Taiteellisen uransa ohella Smith toimi nykytaiteen kuraattorina ja opettajan sekä aktivistina.</p>\n<p>Alajärvellä näyttely on osa laajempaa kokonaisuutta. Jatkossa siihen kuuluvat arktisen alueen alkuperäiskansojen taiteilijaresidenssit Villa Nelimarkassa ja Väinölässä sekä online-taiteilijapaneeli, joka tarjoaa mahdollisuuden taiteilijoiden keskinäisen viestinnän ja yhteistyön edistämiseen. "en": "<p>In these artworks, the artists depict history, culture, humor, lifeways, nature, and relationship to land. The artists come from several different tribes and geographic areas.</p>\n<p>In Alajärvi, this exhibition is part of a broader project with two exhibitions, artist residencies, an online artists roundtable which will be an opportunity to foster communication and collaboration amongst artists from throughout the Arctic Nations.</p>\n<p>EXHIBITION ARTISTS</p>\n<p>Linda Lomahaftewa (Hopi/Choctaw)<br>Lomahaftewa was in the first class of students at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), where she taught for over 40 years. Her artworks combine symbols, animal, and plant motifs and however abstracted are oriented to land and sky.</p>\n<p>Cannupa Hanska Luger (Three Affiliated Tribes of Fort Berthold and is Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara and Lakota)<br>Luger’s Future Ancestral Technologies which he describes as “indigenous science fiction”, utilizes installation, video and land-based narratives, interconnectedness of humans and land.</p>\n<p>Larry McNeil (Tlingit and Nisga)<br>McNeil often takes a humorous perspective on perceptions of Native Americans within the larger culture.</p>\n<p>Meryl McMaster ( Canadian artist with nêhiyaw (Plains Cree), Métis, British and Dutch ancestry)<br>McMaster explores lineage and the relationship of self to the land.</p>\n<p>Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and is also of Métis and Shoshone descent)<br>Smith (whose work was the subject of a 2023 retrospective Memory Map at the Whitney Museum of American Art) utilizes storytelling to demonstrate the ways we are connected to other living beings and elements with humor, warmth, and concern.</p>\n<p>Exhibition artist support provided by Museovirasto.</p>\n"
